Good morning! I'm sorry that I have to be out for the next two days, but my son is extremely sick, and I need to be here with him. Below, I am listing your assignments for the next two days. Be prepared for me to check your journals and your NoRedInk progress when I return.
Monday, February 5th
1) Copy the following notes into your journal on the next available page.
Ch. 10- Mental Imaging
Good readers create a wide range of visual, auditory and other sensory images as they read, and they become emotionally involved with what they read.Pay attention to the 5 senses to paint a mental image.
The concrete representations in your mind will help you move from a literal (basic facts) interpretation of the story to inferential thinking (predicting, inferring, etc.) Inferential thinking is a higher level thinking skill than basic recall of facts. It shows a truer understanding of the information that is read.
Use your five senses (smell, sight, taste, touch, sound) to detail the incident that happens with Dally.
2) Read Ch. 10, then complete the assignment directly above in your notebook.
Tuesday, February 6th
Complete the five topics in the Capitalization Assignment on noredink.com. Make sure that you move through all five topics in order to receive full credit.
Wednesday, February 7th
1) Complete twenty minutes on STRIDE.
2) On the next page in your Outsiders journal, label it Ch. 11- Making Connections. On that page, I want you to think about the characters in the book. Which characters do you share traits with (which ones are most like you?) You may share traits with multiple characters. You may be funny like Two-Bit, but smart like Ponyboy. Make a list of these connections. I think you should be able to list at least four characteristics that you share with a character(s) in the story.
3) Make sure that you have completed all the activities since I've been away (Monday). I will be pulling NoRedInk and STRIDE reports for grading at the end of the day today, and will be taking up journals tomorrow.
Thursday, February 8th
1) I have assigned a new task on NoRedInk- Subject-Verb Agreement. Only about half of the 8th grade completed the Capitalization assignment on Tuesday. It was not an option, and you had the entire class period to get it done. I will start pulling device privileges for students who do not complete computer-based activities. Make sure you finish S-V Agreement today, and that your Capitalization is showing as 100% complete by the end of the period.
I apologize for my extended absence. My son has been very sick, and is currently not improving. I will be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, follow directions and do your assigned work.
